Named after the radical early 19th century Irish politician Daniel O'Connell, O'Connell's Centenary Hotel first opened it's doors to the factory workers of South Melbourne around the same time as South Melbourne football team entered the Victorian league.
Outliving the football team and surviving the changing local history from industrial factories to the delightful tree-lined area it is now, O'Connell's remains true to its original formula of providing a welcoming space for the local and surrounding community.
With Greg Malouf at the helm of O'Connell's kitchen in 1991 until the early 2000's, he turned this stalwart local pub into the gastronomic destination it is today. Blending his Middle Eastern background with Asian and French influences, Greg created a range of intricate menus at O'Connell's which firmly placed the hotel as a food destination.
Under the leadership of Drayson Bushell – and his team of experienced and willing staff and chefs – O'Connell's is a destination for fresh delicious food, shared relaxing in the bar or dining rooms. It is a place to meet friends for celebrations, a private drink or stopover before heading home.
